The Wright Brothers are the first people to have invented the aeroplane. Please watch the video below that explains a little more about the Wright Brothers and their amazing invention.
Once you’ve watched the video, your challenge today is to create your very own paper aeroplane! You can then decorate your paper aeroplane in any way you like – what could you draw on it? A fun activity would be the see how far your aeroplane can travel. How could you measure how far it travelled? Perhaps you could measure using hand spans, your feet or even a measuring tape. This week, you are going to use your Time Machine to meet some interesting Inventors. I promised you that during this topic, you will be going on an exciting adventure and step into a 'time machine' to meet some inventors from the past. Today, you are to meet Garrett A. Morgan who was the inventor of the traffic light. Have a look at the video below to learn all about him.
Once, you've watched the video, I would like you to create your very own traffic light. You can be as creative as you like and use any materials that you have at home, or you can simply draw your traffic light - it's completely up to you! Also, if you're out and about on walk, perhaps you can spot how many traffic lights you see.

Once upon a Time - The Snail and the Whale
Listen to the story of The Snail and the Whale. One little snail longs to see the world and hitches a lift on the tail of an enormous whale. Together they go on an amazing journey, past icebergs and volcanoes, sharks and penguins, and the little snail feels so small in the vastness of the world. But when disaster strikes and the whale is beached in a bay, it's the tiny snail's big plan that saves the day.

I promised you that during this topic, you will be going on an exciting adventure and step into a 'time machine' to meet some inventors from the past. PSHE - Set a simple goal (New Year's Resolutions)
In PSHE, we are learning about our dreams and goals. In January, it is a tradition to set a New Year's Resolution. A New Year's Resolution is a goal that you would like to achieve this year. Today, you are going to set yourself a simple goal that you would like to achieve this year. It could be a simple as learning to do your zip on your coat or to eat more vegetables at dinner time! I look forward to hearing all about your goals this year.

Hello everybody! We hope you all had a fantastic Christmas break and you enjoyed spending lots of time with your families. We hope you enjoy all of the new and exciting learning that we have got planned for you. While I'm recovering from being poorly, Mrs Russ will be temporarily covering me so you may hear her voice on the videos.

Reading Comprehension
For today's reading comprehension, we are going to be reading Croak! Croak! Croak!
Have a go at reading the text and use your phonics to sound out any words you're not sure of. You might be able to spot lots of words from the phase 4 consonant clusters! If you find any words really challenging then read the rest of the sentence and you may be able to work out what the word is. Once, you've read the text, have a go at reading and answering the questions. Remember to read questions carefully and look for any key words in the text.

In phonics, we are are going to be learning to read and write some words using the 'ay' sound. Have a look at the video below and have a practise at writing the words. Once upon a Time - Winnie Flies Again
Listen to the story of Winnie Flies Again on how she encounters lots of challenges when her and Wilbur are flying in the air. She loves travelling by broomstick but unfortunately she has a few mid- air crashes. Winnie tries to use her magic to turn her broomstick into different methods of transport but accidents still happen. Will Winnie find the answers to her problems?
