At our school, the health, safety and wellbeing of all pupils is a priority. We work closely with parents and carers to ensure that children with medical needs are fully supported during the school day.

🧒 Supporting pupils with medical conditions

We are committed to supporting children with medical conditions so that they can attend school safely and take part fully in all activities.

  • We work in partnership with parents, carers and healthcare professionals
  • Individual medical needs are discussed and agreed before a child starts or as needs arise
  • Where appropriate, we will develop an Individual Healthcare Plan (IHP) to ensure clear and consistent support

💊 Administration of medicines

In most cases, medicines should be administered at home wherever possible. However, we recognise that some children need medication during the school day.

We will:

  • Administer prescribed medication where necessary
  • Ensure medication is stored safely and securely
  • Keep a written record of medicines given

Parents/carers must:

  • Complete a medical consent form before any medication is given, available from the school office.
  • Provide medication in its original container, clearly labelled with the child’s name and dosage
  • Inform the school of any changes to medication or dosage

We cannot administer medication without written consent.

⚠️ Managing allergies

The safety of pupils with allergies is extremely important.

We ask all parents and carers to:

  • Inform us of any allergies, intolerances or medical conditions as soon as possible
  • Provide clear information about symptoms and triggers
  • Ensure the school has any required medication (e.g. antihistamines, auto-injectors)

Where required, we will:

  • Put an Individual Healthcare Plan in place
  • Share relevant information with staff to ensure appropriate care
  • Take reasonable steps to minimise risks within the school environment

🚫 Food allergies and safety

To help protect all children:

  • Please do not send items containing nuts (if applicable to your school policy)
  • Ensure packed lunches and snacks are clearly appropriate
  • Avoid sharing food between pupils

📞 Keeping information up to date

It is essential that we have accurate and up-to-date information.

Please inform the school immediately if:

  • Your child’s medical needs change
  • Medication is updated or prescribed
  • Contact details change

🤝 Working together

By working closely together, we can ensure that all children:

  • Feel safe and supported
  • Receive appropriate care when needed
  • Are able to fully engage in learning and school life
