Year 2 Welcome Meeting
English: in English we wrote shape poems based on sea creatures. We had to include: adjectives, expanded noun phrases, similes and alliteration. We challenged ourselves to write rhyming sentences too!
GOAL Day- First we went on a monster journey where we had to create journey sticks using leaves. Then we created our own monsters using natural resources. After that, we completed an outdoor orienteering course. Finally we made dream catchers using sticks that we collected from the woods.
Our Learning Journey 2024-2025

This week we have been inspired by our trip to Hertfordshire Zoo and have been designing our own zoo's. We have drawn plans, designed individual enclosures as well as researching an animal. We finished the project by making a Gade Valley Zoo together.

Sports Week- Year 2 had a fantastic time during Sports Week. They showed all of the Olympic and Paralympic values as well as being fantastic CHAMPs!
A Date with a Duck- We were really excited to be the first class to hold the ducklings! They were very well behaved and calm (the ducklings!) and we really enjoyed cuddling them!
GOAL Day- On our GOAL Day, we did lots of gardening work in our Year 2 garden. We planted a range of fruit and vegetables including: strawberries, carrots, lettuce, beans and tomatoes. We also added colourful flowers to attract the bees and butterflies. We completed an orienteering course, where we had to follow the map to find the different points. We also had the chance to explore our new Trim Trail equipment. In the afternoon, we went into the woods and created mouse houses.
VE Day celebrations- We had a great day celebrating VE Day, we had a special assembly at the start of the day, then had a whole school picnic on the field. In the afternoon, we took part in lots of VE Day themed activities with Nursery, Reception and Year 1. These included making medals, painting the Union Jack and designing dig for victory posters.
In English, we wrote explanation texts to explain how to look after a monster. We are really proud of our published booklets!
GOAL Day: we really enjoyed our GOAL day! In the morning we recreated our own Traction Man stories, completing an outdoor learning course based on the Traction Man stories and used chalk to draw different characters. In the afternoon we used our learning on Monsters to design our own monsters using natural resources and then we made journey sticks for our monsters.

Computing: In computing, we have been learning to create pictograms on the computer. We worked collaboratively to create a pictograms from a set of data.

D&T: We made our own sea creature pouches. First we learned how to do a running stitch, then we designed our pouches. After, we chose which colour material we were going to use and we sewed the 2 pieces together using a running stitch. Finally we created a decorative sea creature to put on the front of our pouch. We had to use all of our CHAMP skills!
GOAL Day- on our GOAL day, we created sea creatures using natural resources. We had to make sure that we made them in the correct size order. We completed Geography fieldwork about habitats. We also completed an orienteering course where we had to use the iPads and follow a trail answering questions at each point. In the afternoon we made bird nests and had hot chocolate and biscuits.

Art- in Art, we completed a project called "Tell a Story". We used a range of mark making to add texture and tone to each key scene in the story Goldilocks and the 3 bears.
GOAL Day- on our GOAL day, we began by creating our house animal using natural resources. Then we created a fire picture using leaves, we had to make sure that we collected the correct leaf colours. In the afternoon, we began by learning orienteering skills. Finally, we had a fire in the woods where we roasted marshmallows and had hot chocolate.
Football skills workshop- on Thursday we had a fantastic workshop with Ash. He taught us a range of football tricks and skills. Some were really challenging and the pupils were really motivated and perseverant.
In English, we wrote a recount about how we can fill up everyone's buckets with kindness.

Our trip to Bekonscot Model Village. We had a fantastic time visiting the model village. We took part in a workshop about toys and we learned about the differences between toys of today and toys from 100 years ago. We got to explore the model village and even ride the train!
GOAL Day- on our GOAL day, we started by completing a Science activity where we had to sort animals and their offspring. We then created repeating patterns using natural resources. Then we made journey sticks as we walked through the woods and field. In the afternoon, we made dream catchers using natural resources.

Our Learning Journey 2023-2024
GOAL Day- on our GOAL day, we completed a Maths Trail where we had to find different objects and follow the mathematical instructions of what to do with them. Then we had to get a Maths challenge card to solve. After, we went on a mini-beast hunt in the woods. Finally we made our 3D maps using natural resources to represent the outside areas such as woods and field.
In PE we have been using our kicking and fielding skills. We have worked together as a team.
Sports Day- we had a great time on Sports Day! Every one tried their best and represented their house group with great enthusiasm and pride.
Sports Week- this week, we have taken part in a range of different sports. All the pupils in year 2 have shown fantastic Olympic and Paralympic values as well as using all of their CHAMP skills.
Art- in Art we have designed and created clay house tiles. We had to include windows and doors as well as using a range of clay techniques including joining and pattern making. We were really Perseverant and are very proud of our finished tiles!
Geography- in Geography we went into the woods to complete some field research. Our enquiry question was: "Why are natural habitats special?" We investigated which plants and animals were in the woods.
STOMP Workshop- we had lots of fun taking part in the STOMP workshop. We had to show all of our CHAMP skills!
D&T: Under the Sea bunting. We made our own under the sea bunting. We had to follow the design criteria and we learned how to use a running stitch to join our pieces of material together. We also used a hot glue gun to attach other material to our bunting. We showed fantastic CHAMP skills!

We had a fantastic day at Hertfordshire Zoo. We saw lots of different animals and had a special talk about penguins. In the afternoon, we enjoyed a walk around the dinosaur trail!

In English, we have written non- chronological report about sharks. We used books and the internet to research about shark's senses. We then used our research to write our own reports.
GOAL day- for our GOAL day we were inspired by National Storytelling Week. We used the story of "The 3 Little Pigs". We created the characters using natural resources, then we made the houses. Finally we re-told the story in our outdoor theatre.
Under the Ocean Shape poems- we have been reading "Commotion in the Ocean" by Giles Andreae. We wrote our own shape poems about an under the sea creature.

Dressing the Tree- we made Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer decorations. We had to paint antlers and the head, then we attached the antlers, eyes and of course his red nose! We're really proud of our decorations.
