Good morning Year 6!

I hope you enjoyed your learning yesterday! Today will be your last day of home learning until after half-term. I hope you have a good break!

I’d encourage you to make the most of the week off and perhaps you could challenge yourself to learn a new skill?

I’m going to be sorting out my garden – I need to build some decking and lay some grass. As I’ve not done this before, I’m going to do some research online and then I’ll give it go. I think I’m going to need to be perseverant and patient along the way if I’m going to achieve my goal!!

Have a great day!

Mr West

New skill challenge: Can you juggle?

As part of my half-term challenge, please have a go at learning this new skill. If you can already juggle, try to add another juggling ball!

I’ve included some instructions (at the bottom of todays work) for making juggling balls out of everyday items!

Please email me a short video of you juggling – one you have mastered the skill of course! I'll then add the videos to the website! Enjoy and have fun!

Good Moring Year 6! I hope you enjoyed your learning yesterday!

Today at 2pm I will be holding a Zoom video call with the whole class! Your parents have had an email about this so make sure they have received it! Just before the meeting, your parents will be sent the log in details for the meeting so look out for that. This will sound strange but please bring a spoon with you to the meeting! All will become clear later!

Finally, I hope you managed to catch yesterday's briefing? It was a little different to our ordinary briefings so make sure you have a look – I think you’ll enjoy it!!

Have a fantastic day!

Good morning Year 6!

I hope you are all well and that you are enjoying your learning. I hope you managed to watch yesterday's briefing? There were several important reminders and the TT Rockstars leaderboard, for the number of correct answers, was revealed. Sadly, we came last! I strongly encourage you to get back onto TT Rockstars and play as much as you can this week so that we can turn things around – wouldn’t it be great if we came first next week? Come on Year 6 – I know you can do it! Yesterday, Mr Barron also reminded us about the fantastic opportunity which we all have to be to doing some extra reading. I am currently reading a fantastic spy novel and will be posting my 5 word review soon!

Make sure you have a look at the Secret Reader page to see if you can guess who it is. Well done to Hollie who guessed last week’s reader! I wonder if there will be any new names from Year 6 who guess correctly this week?

I hope you have a fantastic day – enjoy your learning!

Good morning Year 6,

I hope you all had a lovely weekend and that you enjoyed celebrating VE Day!

In my road, we celebrated by having afternoon tea : everyone set up tables just outside their front doors. One of my neighbours performed some live music and we all had a sing-a-long. I’d be really interested to see what you were up to so please send me some pictures and I’ll add them to our class slideshow.

Have you seen the fantastic VE slideshow that's been created on our VE Day Celebrations page?  If you haven't make sure you check it out. It was lovely to see so many of you taking part and Gade Valley coming together to celebrate VE Day!

Please continue to send me pictures of work that you are particularly proud of to: year6@gadevalley.herts.sch.uk

Hope you have a great day!

Tuesday: 28/04/20

Good morning Year 6. I hope you had a good day yesterday and that you enjoyed your learning!

Firstly, well done to those of you who took part in the TT Rockstars Battle against Year 5. Unfortunately, we did not do quite enough to win but we do have another opportunity today! Come on Year 6 – we can do it! Let’s see if we can get our first win of the week against Year 3. Remember, the Battle takes place between 10am and 11am. Remember to be attentive and perseverant! We can do it!

Secondly, did you get a chance to watch the Daily Briefing yesterday? Mrs Simons has gathered data about the percentage of each class which has sent work to their teacher. Due to ‘technical difficulties’ our data was not displayed but I can tell you that 60.7% of you have sent me work. It would be great to hear from the rest of you so do get in touch with your some work you are really proud of. You can email me at  year6@gadevalley.herts.sch.uk. Thank you to all of you who have already sent in some work!

Thirdly, today there will be a new Secret Reader! Can you guess which member of staff is reading? Email who you think it is to the address given on the page.

Finally, Accelerated Reader is now accessible from home. This means you can log on and search for books which you have at home. It also means you can continue to complete quizzes. I’d really like to know if you score full marks on a quiz so please email me if you do!

Hope you have a great day!

Good morning Year 6!

Wow! It seems like a while since I have seen or even spoken to you! I hope you and your families are all well. I also hope you had a good Easter break! I found the 'holidays' a little different to usual but we have still had a good time!

I wonder if any of you have learned a new skill over the holidays or tried a new activity? I've taught my eldest son to ride his bike - to be honest, I don't know who is more excited about that! (Me or him!)

We have also started going for a run together which I am really enjoying!

It would be great to hear what you have been up to so feel free to email me with any news you'd like to share!

In these challenging times, it is really important to look after your mind and your body. In order to help you do this, Miss Kavanagh has put together a range of resources to aid your wellbeing. These can be found under the 'Wellbeing' section under the 'HOME LEARNING' tab.

I strongly suggest you have a look and give some of the activities a go!

You could talk about what you have been up to during the lockdown or perhaps tell them about how school has changed for you. These are just ideas - feel free to personalise your letters.

Please email your letter to me by 11am on Friday 24th April. (year6@gadevalley.herts.sch.uk)
