Modern Foreign Languages at Gade Valley Primary School
Children in Key Stage 2 learn French. It is taught by the class teacher so that it can be fully integrated into class life, for example, by linking new French vocabulary to topics or answering the register using new conversation learnt. At Gade Valley, we use an internet-based, subscription scheme which provides a fun and lively way of learning. The children are exposed to lots of new vocabulary, covering core and topic-based words, plus some simple grammar is taught to enable sentence building. The children play listening and speaking games, many of which are interactive. In addition, children are given the opportunity to read short texts in French and they learn to write simple sentences. French vocabulary is displayed in classrooms and children have the opportunity to show off their linguistic skills in class assemblies performed to parents.
