Our Geography Learning at Gade Valley
In Year 5, they have been exploring the question 'Would you like to live in a desert?' They have learnt about the climate in different deserts as well as identifying some of the features of a desert such as mushroom rocks and mesas. The class had to think about the benefits and drawbacks of living in a desert biome before making their final decision.
Year 3 have been exploring rainforests this year and in particular the Amazon Rainforest. They have used maps and atlases to indentify where rainforests are found in the world and have also learnt about the different layers within the rainforest. The class thought about the dangers rainforests face and what they can do to help protect them.
As part of their topic on the local environment, Year 1 have been craeting sketch maps. They had to be really attentive and helpful when working together to think about the location of different features in the local area. They then added these to their maps.

Reception class have learnt about our home and local area. The children wrote a letter and learnt that each house has a special address and that is how the postal worker knows where to deliver it. They then went on a walk to post their letter in the letterbox.
Year 3 have been learning about the rainforest. They have explored the different layers of the rainforest and how people live in the rainforest. They have also learned about the Amazon rainforest and located this on a map. In Art, they also made a diorama of the rainforest in groups.

As part of our learning we completed a survey at the River Gade to explore the level of pollution at different points along it.
