Our French learning at Gade Valley

In Year 4 pupils have linked their French learning to their Geography topic on the water cycle by describing different weather conditions.  They can now do that very British thing of talking about the weather - but in French!

Year 3 loved learning colours by singing the rainbow song in French! They then made these beautiful flowers of their own favourite colours to help them learn this new vocabulary.

As part of their unit on shopping, Year 5 extended their learning of numbers and learned the names of a range of food items.  They summarised their learning by writing their own versions of the story of 'Monsieur Mange Tout'.

In French we have been learning about things in the classroom. We have learned the names for different pieces of stationery and labelled these.

In this lesson, the Year 4 pupils learnt how to understand simple sentences in French. They had to listen attentively to pick out certain words spoken in French, work out what new French words mean by looking for cognates and begin to order food in a French café.

In Year 3, the children have learned to have a basic conversation in French. We have learned to say hello, goodbye, how are you, and say what our names are. They created a comic strip showing this.
